Obession List
So today we officially celebrated our anniversary. Chris took the day off which made me very happy. I haven't seen him much this week and was getting cranky over it. We took the three pigeons for their first three mile training toss from this farm stand. Chris asked the owner if we could let them loose from the field behind his store. He was very happy and let us. In fact he got so excited about it he filmed it on his camera. I should get a copy of that hopefully soon. I forgot my own camera but I gave him my email. He was very nice and said I could come out whenever to let them go. It was a very pleasant experience. My birds circled the area several times before heading home. We went to eat after that the went home to get a few things. The birds had made it home perfectly and were waiting inside the loft. I'm very proud of this small flock. I can't wait for my two babies to start flying and get to the point that they can join this trio.

After that we went to a new park. There are several parks in this area we haven't been to and we walked some of the hiking trails. We saw an armadillo, red shouldered hawks and the coolest thing was three Turkey Vultures feeding on a deer carcass. I got pictures of that. There was a power station that looked just like the one in Jurassic Park so we got a picture of that as well. If it had a fence it would have been perfect. It's been very relaxing and beautiful. We really needed this day off together.

I decided to prune my Friends list again. I took off some people that haven't posted in ages and don't post often enough to me here. Once again read my profile. I make it very clear that I expect participation. If you can't fine but don't add me. Also if it gets to the point we no longer have anything in common I will take you off my list. If you post about the same thing too much and I'm totally not into it or it's a subject that annoys me I'll take you off. I may prune my list further still as I don't like that I've been reading my friends list through my filter lately. That shouldn't be. I know some of my friends are going through a phase and it will eventually pass. I'll try to be patient since I do the same thing too but it's darn hard when I hate the subject matter.

Speaking of Phases my friend [info]silvolf recently posted a list of her cartoon crushes she's had. I find it so interesting how much alike we are since I too have kept a list of the characters I liked. Not all my obsessions and crushes were cartoons though. Some where real life, movies, shows or even video game characters. So I think I'm going to list deep obsessions not just crushes. A few were females but that's very rare and the majority are bad guys of course. I kept a record of about how long they lasted too. I kinda forgot my list and see I quit updating it around 2004. Swell that's two years for me to catch up with. Some of my obsession I still have some love and appreciation for. A few I have completely turned on and loath. That's rare. And a few have had revisits which was new to me. So here's my list.

Des's Obsessions

  • Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget. My first real crush. First to 8th grade I think. You always remember your first. Dr. Claw is still very special to me.
  • The Blue Aardvark from the Pink Panther cartoon. This one lasted about four years in the early 80s.
  • Ray Stanz from the Ghostbusters Cartoon. Wow was this ever a strong crush. Five years. I couldn't draw people as a kid so I used to draw him as an eagle. Yes I'm guilty of doing something I hate seeing kids do.
  • Judge Doom from Roger Rabbit. Four months in 1990.
  • Sammy Bluejay from Fables of the Green Forest. 86-88. I still love this cartoon.
  • Cyril Sneer from the Racoons. Not sure of the dates. 80's.
  • Gremlins/Brain Gremlin. 1990-1992. Very strong obsession. Lots of artwork came out of this one as well as a decent sized collection of figures. Perhaps my first true collection.
  • Gangis Rex from Dinosaucers. One month in 1990. Strong obsession that fizzled quickly. Likely because the show was pulled so soon.
  • Freddy Kruger. 1991-1992. Was majorly obssessed with Freddy. Got posters, drawings and books about him. I can't believe I still don't have any of his movies. Then drifted away from it but I still love him very much. He's my favorite modern Human sized monster still.
  • Aliens and Predators. 1992-1993. I got into them because of Aliens and Predator 2. I started to collect the comic books and posters and still have a neat collection of 90s stuff. This is also one of the first obsessions I recently revisited and quite strongly. It's worn off again though.
  • King Bowser Koopa from Mario Brothers. 1993 for about three months. I still love Koopa to this day.
  • Richard P Fungus from Stunt Dawgs. 1992-1994. VERY strong Obsession. Actually I don't think it ever died. When I see him on my tapes I still get that feeling of awe. I think I'm still in love with him. Since there was NO merchandise for Stunt Dawgs...that I know of, I made quite a bit of artwork and a comic book where I featured myself. ACK, that's one no one will ever see. I've learned from the young fan girl mistakes since then. I was only 17.
  • Jafar from Aladdin. 1993-1995. Wow this was a strong obession. I bought lots of figures of him and made artwork and comic books like with Fungus. He still holds a special Place in my heart.
  • Wrathamon from Conan the Adventurer. Now that I have all the episodes I got to relive my passion for his handsome evil wizard. But the hight of it was 1994.
  • M. Bison from Street Fighter II. 1993-1995. Very powerful obsession. I became quite the kick butt in the arcades. I spent loads of quarters and could beat ANYONE. Yes he got a comic book out of me.
  • Stryker from Mortal Kombat 3. 1994-1995. One page of an unfinished comic book out o fme for him.
  • Brocken from World Heros 2. I wrote a story where he was Bison's cybernetic brother. Around the same time I was into Street Fighter.
  • Raptors from Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park in general. 1993-1999. I met Chris in 1996 and he liked dinos too so he helped fuel this love for quite the long time. One of my biggest collections yet came out of this one.
  • Talon from Primal Rage. 1996-1999. Chris ended my reign of terror in the arcades when we first met. Well not quite. I just met my match and we were never able to beat each other. I really must post the full story of how we met. Anyway, I got a huge collection out of this one along with the actual arcade game.
  • Technophage. Technophage was a telekinetic dinosaur from the comic book of the same name. 1995.
  • Kaiju in general. Giant monsters. This has been my longest running obsession ever. 1996-2001. I'll list the monsters I really fell for out of this.
  • Biollante. OH! First female on the list. She was my first kaiju I totally fell in love with. And she's a good guy. I could project myself through her.
  • Destroyah. Well I'm a bad girl at heart and when I discovered Destroyah poor Biollante was left behind. I still love Bi and think she's cute but to this day I live and represent myself through Destroyah.
  • SpaceGodzilla. OMG what a handsome monster! I swoon when I see him still. He is perfect for Destroyah. She destroys oxygen. He's a space creature. So he can handle her.
  • Gogar. My male gigan for my female Gaiganny. Basically they were me and Chris. Gogar was handsome, cocky but sweet. Ok that's it for Kaiju.
  • Zorak. For about a year whenever Cartoon Planet was out. I think I made three bad drawings of him and got a T-shirt of him.
  • Thagirion. 1999-present. I'm still in love with my best creation.
  • Owen Fairfield Marsh. 1996-present. Oh gosh do I still love Owen? Yes very passionately. I can't believe he's older than Thagirion. How did that happen?
  • Sorath. 1999 to present. Ah another original creation.
  • Squidward from Spongebob. 2001-2003. This obsession lasted a very long time because of the Square Board I ran. Figures, comics and drawings came out of this one.
  • Professor Frink from the Simpsons. When I wrote Innocence Lost I revisited my Simpson obsession I'd had back in 1990-1992.
  • Ky Kiske and Robo-Ky from Guilty Gear 2. Oy, this is one of those obsessions that I totally turned against. I hate them both now. 2003-2004.
  • Kroenen from Hellboy. I also turned on him. He was a misplaced love projected from Robo-ky. One year in 2004.
  • Chick Hicks from Cars. When was that? Half a year in 2006 I think. I'll have to check my own journal to see. That's what's nice about keeping this log.
  • Prof. Jonathan C. Cope I love being in love with my own creations. I think I really fell for him in 2008 and it's still going strong.
  • Deathclaws from Fallout 3 game. April 2009 -

Ok so that's my list. Some of the older early stuff I know I've forgotten and left out. Also there's a huge gap between 2004 and 2006. That's because silly me forgot about my list and to keep it up to date. Perhaps that two year period I wasn't into anyone. And after Chick to the present I've been obsessed with nothing but my own creations. I'm enjoying that actually because I'm in complete control of it and don't see myself falling out of it. I guess I went through a Harry Potter phase but I wasn't obsessed with anyone. Voldemort was my favorite character. But I always wonder who will be next. I always move on to something else no matter how I fight to not leave it.

Cool list.

Thanks. It was nice today.

It's neat to finally see it all laid out this way.

Glad you had a nice anniversary! I'm also glad the pigeons are doing so well on their flights.
I turned against some of my obsessions too. Gill and Skye both got that treatment, as did Elvis and the reason I did was because I felt guilty for going over the top with them...particularly Skye. I wasted half my vacation because I was foolish enough to want to watch that stupid show all the time.
There are lots of your characters I haven't heard of, probably mostly because we never had the shows over here or they weren't on a channel I had. We have Zorak in common though! Squidward was always one of my faves from the show and Jafar was one of my faves from the film though. And Brain! I think he made Gremlins 2 at the end.
I enjoyed reading your list!

Thanks.
That happened with me with Ghostbusters. I kinda riealzied I spent too much time watching the show. But I didn't turn on them. Eventually I just moved on to something else.

Really? Which ones? It wouldn't surprise me if it were the monsters from Godzilla. But let me know and I'll try to track down pictures.

Yeah, dedinitely had Zorak in common. Squidward and Plankton are my faves from that show but I really fell hard for Squidward. Also it didn't help Chris can do his voice and I'd get all silly when he would. Jafar is just confident elegance. Wow. And Brain was so sweet.
Thanks. I can't believe how long it was.

Hmm, yes the Godzilla monsters are ones I don't know! The others are: The Blue Aardvark, Sammy Bluejay, Gangis Rex, Wrathamon, M. Bison (although I've probably seen him since I played the game as a kid but my memory fails me), Stryker, Brocken, Talon, Technophage, Ky Kiske and Robo-Ky.

Thats sooo awesome!! I'd love if I had a guy who could do Zorak's voice. Ant got me into doing his voice actually but I was always too embarrassed to ask him to talk to me as Zorak.

Ok, I need to make scans or screen caps of Gangis Rex, Wrathamon and Technophage because I couldn't find any. But here are the rest.

Biollante. She was a beautiful plant monster.
Spacegodzilla
Destroyah I think you've seen her.
The Blue Aardvark His pic was hard to find.
Sammy bluejay and many of the other Green Forest pals.
M. Bison the lead villain from Street Fighter.
Stryker. He was a cop. The pic in the lower left is how he looked in the game.
Brocken You can see why I thought he could be Bison's brother.
Talon from Primal Rage.
Ky This is how he looked in the game. You can see that he'd make a good younger brother for Owen. I think because he was a good guy I turned on him.
Robo-ky The unthinkable happened. I fell for a robot. I HATE robots. I totally turned on them both.

Thanks for showing me! I think Biollante's cool and now that I've seen him, I have seen the Blue Aardvark before.
The other characters are neat too. I remember I was always the green guy in Street Fighter....I think it was cos he reminded me of Gill from Gravedale High lol!

You've got some cool characters on your obsession list. That rocks that you have a Ghostbusters character! Real Ghostbusters and the movie was my first real fandom before the internet or even knowing what a "fandom" was. And it's cool that you like Ray because it seems that a vast majority of that fandom either falls as having Peter and/or Egon as a favorite. Ray definitely didn't get enough appreciation.

And King Koopa... I always liked him too! I wanted him to kick Mario's ass so badly.

Oh and glad to hear you had a fun anniversary. Congrats!

Thanks.
Yes, back in the 80s when computers didn't really exist you felt like you were truely alone and no one else loved what you were into like you. I sure felt like this all the time and mostly kept it to myself only telling a few close friends how I felt.
I've never been the type to go for the main character. Peter was funny but not my thing. Egon bugged me back then. It's a bit embarassing now that the cartoon version of him is physically similar to Owen. How did that happen? I hated Egon. But Ray was the one that made the Stay Puff Marshmellow Man and he was the nicest. I loved him and never got his or Winston's figure. I hated that. I got Ray and Egon. They were the easiest to find. That reminds me, I must go on Ebay and finish my collection of the four originals. It did bug me that they didn't look like they did in the movie. I don't know why they didn't do that. I guess they didn't want all brown haired guys. Sigh.

I hate Mario and it was so easy to love Koopa. I definitely need to draw him killing Mario.

Man, I had typed this long post about Snape and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice (BBC version). How I love the characters and the actors that portray them and then I go and hit the wrong button so I lost everything I typed before... arrgghh!!!

Anyway its good to hear that you had a good day. =)

Thanks.

It sounds like a really lovely way to spend your anniversary, Des. I so *LOVE* going to the parks and hiking. I got a bit paniced when we thought the airlines had lost our hiking boots this weekend. As for the flight, that's *fantastic*! Your little ones really do sound like they're getting the hang of it now! Congratulations!!

Thanks. We had a wonderful time. With how much he worked this week he needed to take a day off. There are so many parks in this area we still have many to explore. My birds flew great again from that three mile toss. I'm amazed at how much better they are thant he last flock. That little baby you saw me handfeed is getting HUGE!
